Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a phone consultation?

The first step to counseling can be confusing, scary, and full of uncertainty and questions. The phone consultation I offer is simply an opportunity for a quick introduction, an overview of my services, and a clear description of the next steps in case you decide you are ready to continue the journey. This is also an opportunity for you to ask specific questions about concerns you might have prior to starting therapy. Let me reassure you that the phone consultation is merely an introduction, giving you the option to move forward. Should you decide you need someone else to meet your needs, I will gladly refer you to another clinician that might be a better fit.

Does Olga Wood accept insurance?

Unfortunately, I currently do not work with insurance companies; however, I do offer documentation reflecting your payments, which you can use for reimbursement.

How long will is the therapeutic process?

Everyone is different, as the problems people face vary greatly. However, research shows that, on average, the length of counseling for anxiety and depression is 16 to 18 sessions.

What if I don’t want to talk about something?

Consider this: You are traveling on the road to experiencing life in a healthier way. You are the driver deciding when and where to make the stops needed for refueling. I am merely holding the map to help you find your way. Simply stated, you have the autonomy and authority to decide what you feel comfortable sharing and what you are not yet ready to divulge. Your life experience is your sanctuary, into which I will not intrude without your invitation.

How can I honor the fees?

I am able to accept cash, checks, debit cards, and credit card payments at this time. Billing occurs on the appointment day, thus giving you the opportunity to prepare for the amount due.

How about medication?

Counselors and therapists are not licensed to dispense or prescribe medication. However, we work in tandem with medical professionals, and I can make suggestions to your physician if you so wish.

Who has access to the information I share?

Mental health professionals are legally, ethically, and morally bound to respect your privacy and vulnerability. I am aware that some of the information shared in the therapy room is highly sensitive, and I provide a safe space for my clients to share their stories with the comfort and knowledge that the painful pieces of their lives are protected in the therapeutic relationship. However, We are mandated by law to make reports to the appropriate authorities if/when we suspect you might be in danger of harming yourself or others, as well as in cases of neglect/abuse of children, the elderly, or physically/mentally disabled individuals.
